BRINGING LOCAL & NATIONAL ECONOMIC BENEFITS
-
The fuel for wind energy is free, it doesn’t need to be carried by road or pipeline, this means it is naturally cheaper. Evidence here in Ireland and across the globe is that more wind energy brings down wholesale energy prices.
-
Ireland, along with Spain has been singled out for special mention by the European Commission on wind power for having the best support scheme for consumers in the EU.
-
Building wind farms here in Ireland is also bringing foreign direct investment to our country and encouraging high tech companies such as Apple, and Facebook to invest their clean energy powered facilities here. For example Facebook, who are building a new data centre in Meath which will be 100% powered by Irish renewable energy state in their global sustainability policy “Access to clean and renewable energy is a key criterion for where we locate our data centers.”
-
The investment from wind energy investment alone is predicted to see our Irish total economic output (GDP) increasing by up to €490 million to 2020 and €769 million to 2030.
-
As well as attracting investment into Ireland, wind energy is also contributing to our national growth through paying taxes, and is predicted to contribute a tax revenue of €1.8 billion by 2030
