Wind Energy

Icon
As a nation, we have a long and proud history of punching above our weight. We’ve shown the world how a small country can be a leader on the global stage. And now we have the chance to do so again, but this opportunity has far reaching consequences for Ireland and the entire planet.
Icon
There are few places on earth better located to harness the power of the wind. Our island’s unique position on the edge of the Atlantic might bring some inclement weather, but it surrounds us with a valuable natural resource.
Icon
An astonishing 85% of our country’s energy needs are imported from abroad, either through fossil fuels or electricity directly from the UK grid. We’re at the mercy of volatile global market prices. Harnessing wind energy – along with other renewable resources – could end that reliance, restoring our energy independence and showing the world how to live without fossil fuels.

Would you like to see Ireland move towards energy independence by reducing our reliance on imported fossil fuels?

What are Global leaders saying today

  • “Ireland must cut emissions and lead in renewable energy. The impacts are becoming unbearable”

    — Mary Robinson, 6 July 2016 —
  • “Our generation in some senses bears a heavier responsibility than earlier generations. We, unlike those who went before us, cannot say that we did not know the consequences.”

    — President Michael D Higgins, 15 April 2013 —
  • “And at a moment when we want to pursue every avenue for job creation, it’s home-grown energy like wind that’s creating good, new jobs”

    — President Obama, 14 August 2012 —
  • “When we have clean energy, we will use less fossil fuels, which create much, much more greenhouse gas emissions. So please continue to invest wisely in renewable energy and this wind power so that everybody can live – with the help of energy – a life of dignity”

    — Ban Ki-moon, 29 July 2014 —
