The new Facebook’s data centre currently under construction in Co Meath will be “online late 2017/early 2018” and will be powered entirely from Ireland’s wind energy.
When operational the new clean energy powered data centre will employ in the region of 115 people.
Irish wind energy will also supply the necessary electricity to power Facebook’s European Head Quarters in Dublin.
The Facebook decision to use Irish wind energy comes alongside other global (and Irish) names who are using Irish wind and renewables to help power their operations including Apple who will be powering their Athenry Datacentre from Irish renewables.
Other companies who have their own on-site wind turbines to power their operations are Flahavan’s Oats, Munster Joinery, Glenisk Organic Yogurts, Country Crest and a cluster of pharmaceutical companies based around Cork Harbour.
